Paytm has rolled out a landmark update enabling Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) to access UPI payments using their international mobile numbers across 12 countries, eliminating the need for an Indian SIM card.
This move aligns with the Government of India’s Digital India mission, bridging the convenience gap for Indians living abroad who wish to maintain financial connections back home.
Countries Covered (expected initial rollout):
USA | UK | Canada | Australia | Singapore | UAE | Oman | Saudi Arabia | Qatar | Bahrain | Nepal | Bhutan
What It Means for NRIs:
Seamless UPI payments directly linked to foreign mobile numbers
No dependency on Indian SIM cards
Easier family support, donations, and bill payments from abroad
Paytm’s initiative strengthens India’s growing reputation as a global digital powerhouse, bringing millions of NRIs closer to their roots through tech-driven inclusion.
“This is not just a fintech upgrade , it’s a bridge connecting India with its global citizens,” said a Paytm spokesperson.
