Kerala NRIs Raise Concern Over Electoral Roll Revision Amid SIR Row

A new Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls in Kerala has sparked concern among NRIs and political leaders, who fear that the process could exclude overseas voters from the official list.

According to Deccan Herald, parties including the Congress and CPM, along with NRI associations, have urged the Election Commission to ensure greater transparency and verification during the voter roll update.

Key Concerns:

Lack of proper verification for overseas voters

Potential omission of valid NRI voters

Insufficient communication channels for diaspora verification

Many NRIs have expressed frustration over being denied the right to vote despite holding valid Overseas Voter ID cards.

“Our voices matter. Being abroad should not mean being excluded from democracy,” said one NRI group leader.

OurNRI calls for reforms that make it easier for overseas Indians to digitally register, verify, and retain their voting rights.

Every Indian deserves a voice — no matter where they live.
